Mura Kumo Morning Glory
4in pot size
This Japanese morning glory has dark-violet blooms that are streaked and spotted with clouds of white. Leaves are light green and are slightly variegated. Blooms can reach 5-6" across. Blooming in early mornings and evenings.
Sunlight:
Plant morning glories in a location with full sunlight. They thrive in at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
Soil:
Provide well-draining soil. Morning glories are adaptable to various soil types but prefer moderately fertile, well-drained soil.
Watering:
Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during dry periods. However, they can tolerate short periods of drought once established.
Support:
Morning glories are climbing vines and benefit from vertical support. Use trellises, arbors, or fences to help them climb and create a stunning display.
Fertilizing:
Morning glories are not heavy feeders, but you can apply a balanced, all-purpose fertilizer at planting time. Too much nitrogen can lead to lush foliage with fewer flowers.
Spacing:
Plant seeds or seedlings with adequate spacing to allow for good air circulation. This helps prevent diseases.
Pruning:
While not necessary, you can pinch back the tips to encourage bushier growth and more flowering. Regular deadheading (removing spent flowers) can also promote continuous blooming.
Mulching:
Apply a layer of mulch around the base of the plants to conserve soil moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature.
Pests and Diseases:
Morning glories are generally resistant to pests and diseases. However, keep an eye out for issues like aphids or spider mites. Treat with insecticidal soap if necessary.
Self-Seeding:
Morning glories can self-seed prolifically. If you want to control their spread, deadhead flowers before they go to seed.
