Lavender Mint (mentha)

4 inch pot size with plant height between 6- 20 inches

Lavender mint is a hardy perennial herb that spreads by runners. Lavender mint is a very aromatic herb that does well in containers; having a similar scent to orange mint. A very easy herb to grow, even for beginner gardeners.

Sunlight:
Plant mint in a location with partial to full sunlight. While mint can tolerate some shade, it generally prefers well-lit conditions.

Soil:
Provide well-draining soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH. Mint is adaptable to various soil types but thrives in fertile, moisture-retentive soil.

Watering:
Keep the soil consistently moist. Mint appreciates regular watering, especially during dry periods. However, avoid waterlogging, as mint can be prone to root rot.

Temperature:
Mint is a hardy herb that can tolerate a range of temperatures. It's generally well-suited for cool to warm climates.

Spacing:
Plant mint with sufficient spacing to allow for its spreading growth habit. Consider planting mint in containers or using barriers to control its spread in the garden.

Fertilizing:
Mint is not a heavy feeder, but it benefits from occasional feeding. Apply a balanced, all-purpose fertilizer in the spring. Avoid excessive fertilization.

Pruning:
Regularly prune mint to encourage bushier growth and prevent it from becoming too leggy. Pinch off the tips regularly to promote branching.

Pests and Diseases:
Mint is relatively resistant to pests and diseases. However, keep an eye out for common issues like aphids or rust. Neem oil or insecticidal soap can be used if needed.

Harvesting:
Harvest mint leaves regularly for culinary use. The best time to harvest is just before the plant flowers for the most intense flavor. Cut stems above a set of leaves to encourage branching.

Companion Planting:
Mint can repel certain pests from nearby plants. Consider planting mint near vegetables to help deter pests.

Container Growing:
Growing mint in containers is a practical way to control its spread. Use well-draining potting mix and a container with drainage holes. Containers also allow you to move the plant to optimal sunlight conditions.
